Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Black Dog Labs LTD is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 at the absolute latest, with an active internal target to align with the NHS Net Zero supplier roadmap by 2045.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Because this is our first formal reporting period, our Baseline Year and Current Reporting Year are aligned. As a small IT consultancy operating from shared flexible workspace, our primary impact sits within Scope 3 (business travel and commuting).

Emissions Reduction Targets

To continue our progress toward achieving Net Zero, Black Dog Labs LTD has adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that our carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 1.35 tCO₂e by 2031. This represents a reduction of 25% against our baseline year of 1.80 tCO₂e.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been utilised or implemented during our baseline period:

• Sustainable Workspace Procurement: Black Dog Labs LTD strategically rents workspace in Shoreditch Exchange, a landmark development built to BREEAM Excellent sustainability standards. This drastically minimises our core Scope 2 footprint through advanced building insulation, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and built-in commercial recycling streams.
• Virtual-First Consultation Policy: We mandate a virtual-first approach for all initial IT discovery phases, software sprint reviews, and client check-ins (via Teams/Zoom), heavily reducing unnecessary Scope 3 Business Travel.
• Low-Carbon Urban Commuting: 100% of our London-based team utilises low-carbon public infrastructure (TfL Overground/Underground network) or walking/cycling to access the Shoreditch office, leveraging the building's secure on-site bike storage facilities.
• Cloud Infrastructure Efficiency: We ensure all client software architectures and data pipelines are deployed with major public cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) that operate on or have committed to 100% renewable energy matches.

Future Initiatives

In the future, we plan to implement further measures such as:

• Formalising an "EV or Public Transport Only" policy for any unavoidable regional client site visits.
• Implementing strict hardware lifecycle extensions, committing to keeping consultant laptops and test devices in active service for a minimum of 4 years to defer upstream manufacturing footprints.
• Liaising with the Shoreditch Exchange building management team to track shared-occupancy renewable energy certificate updates annually.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and approved by the leadership of Black Dog Labs LTD.
